Home for the Holidays Project

The Home for the Holidays Project was made within the month of December of 2019. This was based on my childhood home that I lived in for 13 years. Christmas is favorite time of year because of the snow, the holiday cheer, and most importantly the festive lights that shine within my neighborhood. Christmas lights always made me smile because of the beautiful bright colors and the memories that came from my family taking time after the Christmas Eve candle light service to drive around neighborhoods to look at them. My dad worked hard on setting up lights during Thanksgiving week and bringing them down during the month of January.

When we moved out of the house and into a new neighborhood, I began to miss this house and the numerous memories I had living there. As I was getting ready to go into my final winter break as a college student, I decided to make an exact model of the house for my parents.

Since my parents never took any pictures of our house during the holidays, I took a day photograph we had from when we were selling the house and combined my memory of where my dad hang the lights on the house. When I modeled the plants, I created a leafless tree and shrub in Speed Tree. While the pine trees were sculpted in Zbrush. I think my favorite part of this project was making the Christmas lights look exactly the glow you get from the outdoor lights and balancing the transmission of the glass of the bulbs to make it look authentic.
